Mike Trout furious at Mariners after hit-by-pitch forces exit

Angels star Mike Trout was left angered on Sunday after being dinged in the hand by a 94 mph fastball.

Trout was at the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning when Mariners pitcher Casey Legumina went high and inside on the three-time AL MVP.

But the pitch got away from the righty and struck Trout’s left hand, leaving him in visible pain as he wheeled away from the batter’s box and ripped his elbow guard off.

Trout was ultimately forced to leave the game — an eventual 11-inning, 8-7 win for his team — and fumed at Legumina after the game.

“We know where they’re trying to get me out, fastballs up and in, so it’s just frustrating,” Trout, who has previously complained of high pitches, told reporters afterwards.

“You know, if you can’t control it up there, you shouldn’t do it. So it is what it is.”

According to MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger, an X-ray on Trout’s left hand came back negative, but his hand was still “visibly swollen.”

Trout, 34, ended the win going 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Sunday’s incident wasn’t the first time that Trout was thrown at high and inside during this series.

During the series opener on Friday, Seattle’s Bryan Woo wasted little time throwing aggressively at Trout in the first inning.

Woo’s first pitch of the at-bat narrowly avoided Trout’s head, and then he beaned the 11-time All-Star’s shoulder on the very next pitch.

Trout also looked none too pleased in that instance as he appeared to say something towards Woo.

Trout is slashing a .212/.435/.424 line through 10 games and 46 plate appearances this season, with two home runs and three RBI as well.

The Angels will hope he’s good to go for their matchup against the Braves on Monday night.
