Mike Tindall appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning with his friend James Haskell to talk about their podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, however it was noticed that the former rugby player was quieter than usual.
Although he is married into the Royal Family after his wedding to Zara Tindall 13 years ago, this does not stop Mike from living life as an ordinary former rugby champion as he admitted that he had only just got back from a night out.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Mike said: “We had a dinner last night in The Dorchester in London with the 2003 rugby lads.”
Presenter and interviewer Susanna Reid then asked Zara’s husband what time the celebrations finished, to which Mike looked at his watch and answered: “About three hours ago, something like that.”
The dinner is believed to have been an opportunity for the former rugby players to celebrate 21 years since they won the World Cup in Australia in 2003.
James, who appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside Mike, made a joke that Mike went to Australia in 2003 and “came back with a world cup medal and a princess”, as he met Zara in Australia at the same time.
The 46-year-old then went on to marry Zara in 2011, with the couple now sharing three children together.
They live on the Gatcombe Estate close to Zara’s mum Princess Anne, who Mike revealed in the interview he calls “mam”.
He also said his mother-in-law knows an “incredible” amount about rugby, with the Princess Royal having been a patron of the Scottish Rugby Union for nearly four decades.
Since being part of the Royal Family, Mike has established himself well in the family and has even taken on some “roles” left behind by Prince Harry, including the position of “fun uncle” to Prince George.
Body language expert Judi James told Fabulous magazine: “George’s original ‘fun uncle’ and adult playmate did that infamous bolt to the US, leaving a huge Harry-shaped gap in the young boy’s life that Mike has more than filled.
“Mike is the fun uncle everyone needs, but in the case of Prince George, whose destiny is all about duty and responsible behaviour, Mike’s presence in his life is completely invaluable.”
