Migrants arriving on small boats put up in four-star Costa del Sol hotel

A four-star hotel on the Costa del Sol, Hotel Urban Beach, has opened its doors to accommodate approximately 230 boat migrants who recently arrived from the Canary Islands, Spain.

The first group of migrants, exhausted from their journey, were welcomed by the hotel staff in El Morche, Torrox at 6:30am on Wednesday, January 10.

Having travelled from the Canary Islands, the migrants touched down in Madrid around 10pm the night before and then embarked on an overnight bus journey to Andalucia.

The arrivals were organised into various groups, with the last batch reaching the hotel premises at 7:15am.

The Red Cross promptly provided assistance to the migrants, who were visibly tired but relieved to have reached their destination.

Once inside the hotel, the migrants were allocated rooms, allowing them an opportunity to rest after their challenging journey.

The duration of the migrants’ stay at the Hotel Urban Beach remains uncertain at this time.

However, it is noteworthy that the hotel is currently fully booked, with no available rooms until June, emphasising the challenges posed by the influx of migrants seeking refuge in the region.
