Microsoft issues urgent 60-day alert to Windows users, is your PC on the danger list?

There’s a new warning from Microsoft and it’s not an alert millions should ignore. The US firm has recently pushed out a 60-day reminder to anyone still using Windows 10 with the company saying time is running out before this popular operating becomes totally obsolete. In fact, all free support ends on October 14 with those still using the famous OS at a greater risk of cyber attacks and PC-breaking bugs.

“On October 14, 2025, Windows 10, will reach end of servicing,” Microsoft explained in a recent blog post.

“October 14, 2025 will also mark the end of support for Windows 10. The October 2025 monthly security update will be the last update available for these versions.

“After this date, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats.”

It’s a major change from Microsoft, and those with Windows 10-powered PCs need to act fast if they want to stay protected. It’s also worth noting that Windows 10 will no longer get any upgrades or shiny new features.

If your PC is running Windows 10, then there are some options. Firstly, you can just keep using it as devices won’t stop working after October 14 – they will, however, be at far greater risk of attack.

Want to stay totally safe? The next thing to do is simply upgrade it to Windows 11, with many PCs able to switch over to this latest operating system for free. Sadly, some older laptops don’t have the correct system requirements but don’t panic if you own an ageing PC.

If your device is too old you can sign up for Extended Security Updates (ESU) which cost $30 and will keep things protected for an additional 3 years.

Finally, you can just head to shops and buy a new Windows 11 laptop. You might even fancy considering moving to a Mac instead.

“As always, we recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 11,” Microsoft added,.
