West Ham have issued a statement confirming Michail Antonio has been involved in a road traffic accident on Saturday.
The Hammers striker, 34, would not have been playing until Monday when his side take on Wolves in a crucial six-pointer for Julen Lopetegui and Gary O’Neil.
But their preparations have been rocked by the news that Antonio was involved in a car crash, which reportedly took place in Essex.
West Ham released a statement on Saturday to confirm that Antonio was involved in a car crash, although they did not provide an update on his condition.
A statement read: “West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident.
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time. The club will issue an update in due course.”
On Saturday afternoon, images surfaced on social media of a Ferrari that had crashed and unconfirmed reports suggested it belonged to Antonio.
It is not yet known if the car belongs to the Jamaica international, who has scored 83 goals in 322 appearances for the Irons since arriving in 2015 from Nottingham Forest.
