Mets reveal Opening Day lineup to face Pirates’ Paul Skenes

The Mets’ Opening Day lineup is here with no surprises.

Francisco Lindor, who was determined to miss no time following early spring hamate surgery, indeed has made it back and will bat leadoff and play shortstop.

Juan Soto will bat second and be protected by Bo Bichette, making his Mets debut at third base.

Jorge Polanco, who has never started a game at first base, will get his first official look at the position and bat cleanup.

Luis Robert Jr., who came over from the White Sox in a trade, will bat fifth and play center field.

Brett Baty is batting sixth and serving as designated hitter after the Mets’ busy offseason forced him into a utility/DH role and will be followed by Marcus Semien, who will bat seventh and play second base in his club debut.

Top prospect Carson Benge will make his MLB debut and bat eighth — against Paul Skenes, so good luck — and Francisco Alvarez is catching and rounding out the lineup.
