The Met Office has issued an urgent “stay away” warning as the UK is set to be impacted by waves and wind over the coming days. The weather service posted on X: “Big waves and gusty winds are likely at beaches in the next few days, so stay safe at the coast.” Experts added the Brits should “stay away from cliff edges”, and “stay back from stormy seas” as waves can “sweep you off your feet”. People have been urged to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they see someone in trouble.

Three yellow weather warnings have been issued for the UK, two affecting parts of southern Wales, and another covering the south west, south east and south of England. Locals have been told to expect heavy showers and longer spells of heavy rain that may bring some disruption to transport and infrastructure between 10pm today and 12pm tomorrow.

One alert for 07.56am until 4pm today covering Port Talbot, Neath, Merthyr Tydfil and parts of Swansea warns residents of “frequent heavy showers” that are “likely to continue Thursday morning and early afternoon, before gradually easing through mid-to-late afternoon”.

The Met Office added that “flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible”, and spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer”.

Forecasters also said “some interruption to power supplies and other services possible”.

Experts said regarding today’s weather: “Sunshine and scattered showers for many, these heavy and thundery at times with the possibility of hail.

“Breezy, especially in the west, and feeling cooler here, but warmer in sunny spells in the east.”

Tonight, things are expected to become “largely dry with clear spells across the east and southeast”.

“Elsewhere, showers likely to become more organised in the southwest and northwest,” the Met Office added.

“Breezy for most.”

On Friday, more rain is expected across the south west, with “heavy and thundery showers”.

Specialists added: “These moving eastwards across southern counties.

“Elsewhere any showers easing in the afternoon with temperatures around average.”
