Met Office confirms first snow for UK with five-word verdict | Weather | News

The Met Office has confirmed the possibility of the first snow of this season for the UK. The forecaster spoke about snow predictions in it long-range forecast for the next 10 days.

The agency stated the possibility of ‘some snow over high ground’ as parts of the country are gripped by the freezing weather conditions.

The forecast aligns with weather maps that suggest the possibility of snowy conditions in the northern parts of the country on November 3, albeit isolated and on higher ground.

WXCharts maps show areas around Inverness, Aberdeen, and Wick may experience cold weather conditions with temperature levels falling to 0C.

The icy conditions are likely to leave a massive impact on Scotland while other areas may witness temperatures in double-digits. The chilly weather comes as many of the UK towns were warned of a 150-mile-long snow blast as early as Halloween weekend.

Northwest Scotland areas in the crosshairs include Talmine, Tongue, Lairg, Ullapool, Dingwall, Garve, Fort Augustus, and Mallaig.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast between October 29 and November 7 reads: “High pressure will dominate through much of next week, bringing widely settled conditions but probably with a fair amount of low cloud, producing spots of rain or drizzle at times.

“There will also be an increased chance of frost and fog, which may be slow to clear in places. The far north/northwest may experience breezier conditions and some outbreaks of rain at times, and there may be a tendency for this to push a little farther south later in the week, potentially allowing some colder air to filter into parts of Scotland with perhaps some snow over high ground.

“Otherwise, high pressure will tend to dominate for much of the rest of this period across more southern, and perhaps central, areas, with a continuation of drier than average conditions likely.”

Friday:

The forecaster says: “A weakening band of showery rain moving north and east across England and Wales. Patchy rain across Northern Ireland too. Some bright intervals elsewhere. Mild, though windy far southwest England.”

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Over the weekend, wet and windy weather can be expected across northern areas. The south will experience drier weather with some fog, turning to bright spells. Rain will move southeastwards Sunday night into Monday with temperatures near average.
