Melania Trump has been labelled “a boss” after keeping her cool during an elevator mishap at the United Nations Headquarters on Tuesday (September 23).

The First Lady of the United States accompanied her husband, President Donald Trump, as the pair were greeted by a crowd of press who had gathered at the complex in 45th Street, New York City. After audibly appearing to avoid questions on Palestine and Chuck Schumer [Minority Leader of the United States Senate], Trump made his way to the moving staircase – only for it to grind to a sudden halt the moment he set foot on it.

As the 79-year old looked around in confusion, an undeterred Melania quickly proceeded to head up the static escalator, prompting the President to follow her. Trump and his fellow world leaders are attending the 80th session of the UN’s General Assembly (UNGA) with this year’s theme for the annual global meeting being, “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”.

It was the actions of Melania, 55, however, that drew praise on social media. “Melania is a BOSS for that move,” declared one X user in response to the elevator footage. “TEST PASS LFG! Escalator ain’t stopping nothing!”

A second person hailed: “Love how she takes charge and starts climbing.” A third concurred: “Melania doesn’t miss a beat and starts climbing the stairs. She’s wonderful! No one screws with her because she’s a powerhouse.”

A fourth X user quipped: ” Melania – even in high heels – is unstoppable. Let’s go!” And a fifth enthused: “Melania took the reins (in a sleek white suit after Labor Day fashion icon!) and led the way! Actually shows a lot of who she is… don’t underestimate Melania, she’s one strong woman! God bless the USA.”

In addition to the escalator problem, Trump was also left fuming after his teleprompter malfunctioned at the event during his speech. The technical issue occurred during a live broadcast airing on several channels, including Fox News.

As the President took to the stand in front of two small microphones wearing his staple blue suit, white shirt, and red tie, he soon realised the teleprompter was broken. “I don’t mind making this speech without a teleprompter, because the teleprompter is not working,” he slammed.

Trump looked visibly annoyed as he looked to the side and heard the audience awkwardly laugh. He continued: “I feel very happy to be up here with you, nevertheless, and that way you speak more from the heart…”

The President then warned: “I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble.” He then shook his head as he appeared lost for words without the help of the equipment, as the room looked on at him, waiting for him to deliver his planned speech.
