With everything going on in the US and the world right now, all eyes are on Donald Trump.
And as well as the US President himself, his wife Melania Trump is under public scrutiny – with her every move being watched by many. And some people have been left concerned over an ‘odd’ gesture the First Lady has been spotted doing.
During 78-year-old Trump’s latest speech to Congress, Trump spoke about his wife. However, as he called out, “The First Lady of the United States”, Melania’s lip was seen twitching as the camera panned to her.
Sharing the moment, one person wrote online: “Melania is doing that lip thing again.”
It comes after Melania was spotted doing the same gesture while alongside her husband back in January.
People have been left concerned for Melania regarding the gesture, as one person asked: “Is she ok?” Another person said it was “like she was hissing”, while someone else echoed: “Could it be a snarl or a hiss?” A fourth also claimed she was “growling”.
According to Psychology Today, some people’s lips can twitch is they’re ‘nervous or stressed’. Its website reads: “When some people are nervous or stressed, their lips will twitch or move about erratically, like a nervous tic or a form of dyskinesia (involuntary muscle movement). Or the lips may visibly distort or contort uncontrollably under emotional turmoil.
“For those not familiar with this behaviour, it can be distracting, but once you realise that this is often induced by stress, it can help you assist others undergoing an emotional situation so you can be more understanding and, hopefully, empathetic.”
During his one hour and 40 minutes address to Congress on Tuesday (March 4), Trump said his administration was “just getting started”. He said his efforts to slash the size of the federal workforce, reorient US foreign policy and escalate a risky trade war was just the beginning of the “most thrilling days in the history of our country”.“America is back,” he declared.
