Meghan Markle’s popularity in America has had its highs and lows since making the decision to step down from the Royal Family in 2020. After officially joining the Royal Family in May 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved across the pond to Meghan’s home country two years later.
Although her current popularity is favourable, it has yet to reach the heights of what it was before the Oprah Winfrey interview a year after she stepped away from royal duties.
In March 2021, YouGov conducted a poll immediately after the couple’s interview aired that showed 68 percent of Americans had sympathy for Harry and Meghan.
YouGov’s most recent polling of Americans came in April, when 41 percent liked Meghan and 26 percent disliked her – which gave her a net rating of plus 15.
Compared to Meghan, Harry stood at a plus 35 rating. Fellow royals also featured, with Princess Kate at plus 43, Prince William at plus 53 and King Charles at plus 21.
Queen Camilla, who has had her share of criticism over the years, surprising sat on the ranking lower than Meghan – with a score of minus seven.
The polls show that Meghan and Harry have always ranked lower than the likes of Wiliam and Kate – but always higher than Camilla.
Although yet to reach her former higher ranking, Meghan has gained more popularity in the US than the received following the release of Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare in early 2023.
Harry and Meghan moved to California in 2020 with their son Archie, who was born in the UK in 2019.
The couple later welcomed their daughter Lilibet, whom Meghan gave birth to in June 2021.
