Meghan Markle may have made a number of controversial comments about life in the Royal Family in TV interviews and in her docuseries Harry and Meghan, but not everyone knows that the duchess also did this on her own podcast too.
After quitting life as a senior member of the Royal Family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were quick to move overseas to California and sign commercial deals, including one with Netflix and one with Spotify.
This was all part of their aim to be financially independent, with the prince and his wife having bought an £11 million mansion in Montecito soon after relocating across the pond.
While the Spotify deal they signed eventually ran its course last year, for a brief time Meghan, 43, had her own series called Archetypes.
The series, which saw Meghan chat with celebrities, historians and experts about the history of stereotypes faced by women, had just 12 episodes, with the last one ending with what has since been considered to be a swipe at the Royal Family.
At the end of the final episode, the mum-of-two said: “I feel seen, I had never considered that in using my voice I would feel seen, but I do.
“Many moons ago I heard a quote that I will share with you today because as we talk about labels, tropes and boxes that some may try to squeeze you into and roles and stereotypes that are attributed to you that don’t quite fit the full person that you are, this ‘what didn’t you do to bury me? But you forgot that I was a seed’.
“To that point my friend, keep growing and I’ll see you on the flipside. As ever, I’m Meghan.”
While the duchess didn’t explicitly refer to any royals or name the Firm to who she was directing the quote too, one royal expert believes this was indicated in the undertone of the message, with Meghan having previously spoken on other platforms about the restrictions that came with being a royal.
Talking about Meghan’s final parting swipe on the podcast, royal biographer Phil Dampier told the Sun: “I’m sure that it was a veiled reference to the restrictions of the Royal Family.
“It’s a clever way of doing it because she’s not directly saying something but people can still read into it what they like. Then if anyone takes offence she can say ‘oh I didn’t mean it like that’.”
While Meghan’s podcast may not have flown off the ground, the duchess currently has other projects underway, including her upcoming American Riviera Orchard brand.
The date of the brand launch has not yet been confirmed, with the duchess reportedly facing a number of hurdles with her new brand over trademark issues.
