Meghan Markle’s strategic move regarding her ner new Netflix show could work in her and Prince Harry favour in the long run, according to a PR expert.
The Duchess of Sussex was due to launch her new cookery show, With Love, Meghan, on the streaming giant tomorrow, however, due to the ongoing wildfire crisis in Los Angeles, the show was postponed until March 4. Several Hollywood projects and awards shows have been delayed, while the Sussexes have been spotted helping out in the area with those affected.
Now, PR expert believes the move was the right call for the duchess, who could potentially have ended up being called “tone-deaf” had the show been aired.
PR and personal branding expert Mayah Riaz told the Mirror: “Given the severity of the wildfires, which have resulted in loss of life and property, proceeding with the show’s original release date could have been perceived as insensitive. In terms of choice, while Meghan could have proceeded with the original release, doing so might have attracted criticism for being tone-deaf to the ongoing crisis. Delaying the show allows her to avoid potential backlash and demonstrates respect for the affected communities.”
She added: “This brief postponement is unlikely to diminish audience interest; in fact, it may build anticipation and provide additional time for marketing efforts. Meghan hasn’t just delayed the premiere, but she and Harry have been actively involved in relief efforts. This has generated media coverage, indirectly benefiting the show’s promotion.”
