Meghan Markle got fans talking on Monday when she posted a 10-year-old picture of Prince Harry to mark his 41st birthday. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, shared a photograph of the Duke of Sussex from 2015 when he attended a Battle of Britain event at Goodwood Aerodrome in Chichester.
In the photograph, Harry has a shocked expression on his face with his hair looking windswept. The Duchess captioned the post: “Oh hi, Birthday Boy [fire emoji].”
While many royal fans have rushed to criticise the choice of photograph, with some accusing her of mocking her own husband, many may have missed how the photograph choice was actually a secret UK tribute.
This is because Prince Harry’s birthday yesterday coincided with the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
By Meghan using a photograph of Harry taken at the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2015, this may be considered to be a nod to the UK and the historic event.
This photograph of Harry is the only one she shared on social media yesterday to mark his birthday.
Despite being away from home last week as he visited the UK and Ukraine, the Duke of Sussex was believed to have made it back to his Montecito estate in California over the weekend just in time for his big day.
It is not known how the prince marked the occasion, however it is believed he would have been spoiled by his wife Meghan, 44, and their children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
It is not yet known when the duke will next visit the UK, however he told The Guardian that his focus over the coming year was going to be on his dad King Charles, 76.
The comment came after he reunited with his father last Wednesday for the first time since February 2024.
Harry also hinted to the news publication that he would want to bring his children to his home country too, despite saying just months ago that he deems it too unsafe. When asked whether he would bring Archie and Lilibet back to the UK, Harry said: “I would. This week has definitely brought that closer.”
