Meghan Markle's one-word admission about Princess Kate reveals how much times have changed

Meghan Markle once made a one-word admission about Kate, the Princess of Wales that, in 2024, shows the massive changes within the Royal Family dynamic in such a short space of time.

The Duchess of Sussex first met her sister-in-law in 2017, roughly a year after she and Prince Harry first connected in November 2016.

The two couples’ friendship appeared to blossom thereafter, and they were once dubbed the “Fab Four” by media commentators at the time, with a bright future expected for the group.

But insiders reported a developing rift between them and in 2020, the Duke and Duchess were preparing for their move across the Atlantic with their newborn son Archie-Harrison Mountbatten Windsor, after stepping down as senior members of the Royal Family.

Her words following their initial meeting show just how significantly their relationship and perceptions have changed in those few short years.

Following their engagement in 2017, the couple gave an interview to the BBC’s Mishal Hussein where they recalled Meghan’s first meeting with Kate.

Prince Harry said the initial meet-up was “exciting” as it followed a period of time in which he “literally didn’t tell anybody at all”.

He added that William was keen to meet his then-girlfriend, saying: William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine, so you know, being our neighbours, we managed to get that in a couple of — well quite a few times now and Catherine has been absolutely…”

The Duchess of Sussex chimed in and finished his sentence with a one-word answer, saying: “Wonderful.”

The Duchess touched on that initial meeting again in 2022, when they released the Harry & Meghan documentary, but with a very different one-word answer summing up their first night together as “surprising”.
