Meghan Markle recently made a poignant confession regarding the “emotion” during the Christmas holidays.

The Duchess of Sussex is undoubtedly getting ready to spend Christmas tomorrow with her husband, Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in Montecito, California.

It will mark yet another year away from the Royal Family, who will put on a united front in Sandringham.

The last time Harry and Meghan spent Christmas with the royals was in 2018. In 2019 they spent their holidays in Canada and in early 2020 they stepped down as working royals and moved to the US, with their relationship with the Firm gradually becoming frostier.

Back in October, the duchess hosted a holiday dinner in celebration of the Archewell Foundation’s Welcome Project – an initiative launched in 2023, which aims to support programmes for women who have resettled in the United States from Afghanistan.

While there, Meghan told the group: “From my standpoint, I think part of why we wanted to make sure we had this opportunity to all be together again—so many of us—right now is that as the holidays come up, and have already begun in many regards, it brings up so much emotion for people.

“You miss home, you miss your country, and also can find comfort in the new community that you have here.

“I’m grateful that we are able to be a part of that community.”

During the event, the duchess gave an interview to Marie Claire and opened up about how her own family will be celebrating this year’s festivities.

She said: “We’re always making sure we have something fun to do.

“Like any other family you spend time having a great meal and then what do you do? Play games, all the same stuff, someone brings a guitar—fun.”

The duchess added that she makes sure her two children can get to experience “the magic” of traditions like “great recipes that they end up connecting to a formative memory” at Thanksgiving” or putting out “carrots for the reindeer” at Christmas.

She said: “Every single holiday is a new adventure.”

“I love the holidays.”
