A subtle gesture from Meghan Markle in a new video demonstrates she is more at ease than Prince Harry, according to a body language expert.
The Sussexes appeared in a video message sent to a United Nations conference about ending violence against children in Bogota, Colombia, which addressed “urgent solutions and actions needed to create a world where children are safe and protected in their homes, schools, communities, and online spaces”.
Body language expert Judi James exclusively told Express.co.uk that Harry’s stance looked almost “military”.
She explained: “The air of royal formality is constant from Harry here. He barely smiles and his attitude looks military, with his hands clasped behind his back and a bouncing up and down on his toes to register authority and a serious, assertive approach.”
In the video, which appeared to have been filmed at their Montecito home, the couple applauded the efforts of those addressing the issue and stressed the importance of tackling digital violence to prioritise children’s safety in today’s connected world.
Harry and Meghan wore co-ordinating outfits, with Meghan opting for a navy cashmere blazer by Ralph Lauren (£2,740), which she paired with a black top underneath and a pair of gold studs by Ariel Gordon (£212).
Harry dressed in a navy blazer and a crisp white shirt underneath, and they both had remembrance poppies pinned to their jackets.
The body language expert commented on Meghan’s repetative smiles. She said: “Meghan’s body language looks softer and her smile is more constant. When Harry speaks, she employs bonding rituals of affection, turning her face to watch him with a smile of approval.
“It’s a more formal display from Harry though, who rather stiffly puts his arm out around his wife’s back at the end of their presentation.”
Harry made a set of strong statements in the video. He said: “We are at a crossroads where the urgency to reassess and redefine our approach to protecting children has become increasingly evident.
“While the necessity has always been apparent, it is now time to translate that awareness into meaningful action.”
Meghan added: “My husband and I recognise today’s reality is marked by greater connectivity and advanced technology, which of course has many positives, but which also compels us to better understand how digital violence against children is manifesting itself in this age.”
It is the first time the pair have been seen together publicly in several months since their highly-publicised tour of Colombia back in August.
The video’s release also comes just days after Donald Trump was elected as the new US president – with Harry and Meghan likely to be eagerly awaiting his first moves when he takes office.
