Meghan Markle once had an awkward moment while greeting royal fans during her last visit to the UK back in 2022. The Duchess of Sussex has not set foot in Prince Harry’s home country in nearly three years now.
Her last trip back was in September 2022 to attend the state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth. During their stay in England, the Sussexes joined the Prince and Princess of Wales as they greeted royal fans outside Windsor Castle who had gathered there after the late monarch’s passing. The royals greeted the fans and also read messages of condolences written for the late Queen.
But during the walkabout, there was an awkward moment caught on video of a royal fan appearing to snub the Duchess of Sussex as she was greeting fans.
As seen in the video, a woman in blue, who has never been identified, was seen facing away from Meghan while having her arms crossed over the railing as the duchess passed.
She then looked at the woman next to her and smirked, shook her head, and laughed.
The duchess, who was praised for her calm reaction, was seen quickly moving to the next fan, seemingly not noticing the snub.
At the time, body language expert Judi James said: “It’s a tough call to be ignored close-up in public like this, and having the offer of a handshake refused will add to the sense of rejection.
“But Meghan seems to draw on her experience as an actress to minimise the impact as elegantly and calmly as possible.”
She added: “Meghan touches the arm of another woman, shakes with the one next to her, but then manages to avoid turning a snub into a drama by picking that rhythm up again with people who are extending a hand and barely missing a beat as she does.
“There’s no sign of a negative response from Meghan and this would be important as it could go either way.”
