Meghan Markle has been joined by SPANX’s founder Sara Blakely on the eighth episode of her podcast series, Confessions of a Female Founder. The latest episode marks the final episode of Meghan’s series, with the new episode seeing the pair “get real about betting on yourself, and building bold business strategies”.
The 43-year-old released her first episode back on April 8, with a new episode released every Tuesday. Joining Meghan, Sara – who has an eye-watering net worth of $1.3 billion – opens up about her experience of starting from stratch one more time – this time with her latest venture: a shoe line called Sneex.
Sara – the former CEO of the women’s shapewear brand – was working as a fax machine salesperson when she got the inspiration for Spanx in 1998.
Having never worked in fashion nor retail, as well as having never taken a business class in her life, Sara had only £3,694 [$5,000] to her name to invest in the business.
Last week, Meghan was joined by viral beauty brand Kitsch’s founder Cassandra Morales Thurswell.
The pair used their chat to discuss “how grit, intentional design and a scrappy mindset were essential in transforming a humble start into a thriving global business”.
Speaking to her guest, Meghan revealed how she likes to “show up for people” – with this gesture extending over to her business, As Ever.
Meghan, who sent homemade baskets of products from her brand As Ever to various influencers and celebrity friends, told Cassandra: “Also down to the core of what you have always liked doing, so you look at the evolution of that and for me, I have been making perserves, I’ve been giving fruit baskets, I’ve loved to garden.
“Before I had a house and a garden like this, in my bungalow, I had a lemon tree.
“In a way, all [of] these years later, because that’s been the undercurrent of how I like to show up for people [and] to have that still be ingrained in how I show up through the business…”
