Meghan Markle uploaded a sweet tribute to her husband Prince Harry overnight as she shared a reel of videos and photographs to mark Father’s Day. While the Duchess of Sussex, 43, used to post early in UK time, and late in the US where the family live, this was not the case this time.
Instead, the Duchess shared the video to Instagram after 11pm in the UK, meaning that many people in the country didn’t see it until the next day. Meanwhile, the US audience would have mainly still been awake when the Instagram video went live.
The shift comes after the Duke and Duchess recently parted ways with six more members of their team and have joined forces with US-based PR company, Method Communications.
The move has led Brand and Culture expert Nick Ede to explain why Meghan may have done this for strategic reasons.
It is believed that the Duchess has appointed a new communications team under Meredith Kendall Maines, who the couple hired as their Chief Communications Officer at the start of the year.
Meghan and Harry also waved goodbye to some existing members of staff, including their LA-based deputy press secretary Kyle Boulia and their UK press officer Charlie Gipson.
Harry and Meghan, who quit their senior royal roles five years ago, also recently hired Emily Robinson, who previously worked as a senior publicity director at streaming giant Netflix, as their new director of communications.
Talking about the change in the timing of her latest Instagram post, Mr Ede said that he believes that the change may have come about as Meghan is still unpopular in the UK, and has failed to win over the British people since quitting royal life with Harry in 2020.
He explained that this may be why the post was published at a time when the US audience would see it first.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Ede said: “Meghan and her team know that her value is not in the UK anymore and that it lies in the USA., so it makes sense for her to be posting when her US fans are awake.
“It also means that the media in the US will pick up on any posts she makes, again making the narrative much more sympathetic to her than traditional media in the UK.”
Mr Ede also said that he believes Meghan’s decision to start posting her children’s faces, something she had previously avoided, was an attempt by the mum-of-two to “control” the narrative.
