The Duchess of Sussex has revealed her fears about not having enough money on her latest podcast episode on ‘Confessions of a Female Founder’. Speaking to billionaire Spanx founder Sara Blakely on the podcast, Meghan Markle got candid with her guest as they talked about finances. Sara Blakely revealed how people do not have good narratives around financial freedom as she spoke with her friend and podcast host.
In response, the As Ever founder, 43, admitted she would “love to adopt” a healthier mindset about money. Meghan said: “So many women, especially, we’re taught to not even talk about money. And there’s lots of guilt mentality surrounding having a lot.”
Markle remarked that it’s all too “easy” to believe financial security is out of reach. Meghan also said: “And at the same time, there’s a scarcity mindset that it’s easy to attach to, of like ‘I’ll never have enough’.”
Sara – the former CEO of the women’s shapewear brand – was working as a fax machine salesperson when she got the inspiration for Spanx in 1998. Sara has an eye-watering net worth of $1.3 billion, and she opened up about her experience of starting from scratch.
The couple’s Montecito property has far outpaced the general California housing market, which reports suggest has seen median home prices rise by 41 % since June 2020.
Confessions of a Female Founder is a podcast produced by Archewell Audio Productions and hosted by Meghan Markle. The podcast debuted on April 8, 2025, and features Meghan talking with female founders and friends who have started their own companies and brands.
Meghan finished her series finale by speaking to the Spanx founder. She also discussed being pregnant with Archie and Lilibet and discussed money scenarios.
“I mean, I gained 65 pounds with both pregnancies,” Meghan recalled. “A friend just said to me the other day, they were like, ‘I just saw this picture I’d forgotten about when you were so pregnant with Archie.'”
Meghan added: “I always wear my five-inch, pointy-toed stilettos. You have the most enormous bump and your tiny little ankles are bracing themselves in these high heels. But all my weight was in the front…
“So you’re just going, how on Earth am I not just tipping, you know, face planting? I was clinging very closely to my husband, like, ‘Please don’t let me fall.'”
Meghan Markle lives with her husband Prince Harry, since quitting royal duties in 2020, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in their Montecito mansion in California.
It is currently unknown whether Confessions of a Female Founder will renew for a second season.
