Meghan Markle looked chic as she rocked a business look as she arrived at the TIME 100 Summit donning a $5k Ralph Lauren suit – but eagle-eyed royal fans were quick to spot that her look was a carbon copy of The Princess of Wales with one minor Gen-Z twist. On Wednesday, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted in New York as she arrived with her husband, Prince Harry, for the star-studded event.
The 43-year-old was caught smiling as she stepped out of a tinted SUV and was surrounded by a large entourage. Meghan was snapped in a tanned silk-linen suit from Ralph Lauren. Her pricey blazer cost $2,490 (£,1874) and the matching wide-leg trousers came with a hefty price tag of $2,190 (£1,648).
She paired the look with a white shirt underneath, a brown belt and suede Manolo Blahnik heels which retail at £650.
However, it is not the first time we have seen a royal step out in this powerhouse look. It appears Meghan has taken style notes from Princess Kate as her look is almost identical. Back in 2023 the Princess of Wales, 43, wowed fans in a smart look. She wore a stunning camel ensemble when she visited Streets of Growth, a not-for-profit youth intervention charity in East London.
The Princess donned a beige suit from Roland Mouret and paired it with a white top underneath. She completed her look with suede Gianvito Rossi pumps.
Royal onlookers were quick to spot the comparison and took a swipe at Meghan. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one user claimed: “She [Princess Kate] did it better and her suit was correctly ironed.”
“She always copies Princess Catherine (Kate) of Wales. Meghan Markle is very envious & jealous of her. She’s always mirroring her. It’s rather creepy and scary,” said a second user.
While another pointed out the oversized fit that Meghan went for: “Horrid. Why??? on earth would you wear trousers so big it looks so messy.”
Meghan who is often referred to as a fashion icon, no doubt went for the baggy look as it is popular with Gen Z. The next generation of fashionistas often opts for looser, wide-leg trousers that allow them to be a bit more comfortable while remaining in stylish.
However, others hailed the look and shared: “She looks stunning nobody should be comparing Kate and Meghan. Meghan is an icon in her own right.” A second added: “I love her [Meghan Markle] look, she is just one of us.”
This is not the first time Meghan has been accused of copying Princess Kate. Back in February, the Duchess was spotted wearing the ‘Duccio Jacket’ from Doen, which costs £748, while she cosied up to Prince Harry at the Invictus Games.
However, the super timeless design – featuring contrasting lapels that have a heritage feel was almost identical to Princess Kate’s £625 blazer from Smythe, which she wore in 2018 during a royal engagement.
Their undeniable alikeness dates back to when Meghan first burst onto the scene. On the day that Meghan was officially announced as the wife-to-be of Prince Harry, she wore a sleek white wrap coat for her engagement photo call with Prince Harry which featured a similar silhouette.
Princess Kate visited Portsmouth in 2015, sporting a white coat from Max Mara Studio, which was the double of the one Meghan chose to wear just two years later.
