Meghan Markle showcases hidden talent in Netflix doc | Royal | News

As the latest documentary series from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hit our screens on December 10, fans from all over the world once again flocked to Netflix to take a glimpse at Polo, a docu-series following the glamorous world of the equestrian sport loved by the Prince.

Yet while the show didn’t quite pack the same explosive punch as their documentary back in 2022, and featured a distinct lack of bombshells about his disdain for royal life – it did give viewers a rare insight into one of Duchess Meghan’s hidden talents.

Split across five episodes in total, the show charted the experience of some of the world’s greatest polo players in the run up to the 2024 U.S. Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida.

The series also allowed Prince Harry to show off his own skills in the saddle when he took part in the Royal Salute Polo Challenge charity march for his charity Sentebale – the very same event that saw his wife Meghan showing off her impressive Spanish language skills.

As the scenes unfolded on screen, Meghan was seen conversing with legendary polo player Adolfo Cambiaso who was competing alongside the Duke, after Prince Harry let slip to his teammate that Meghan was fluent in Spanish.

Surprised by the revelation, an impressed Adolfo exclaimed: “Really?” Before the pair began engaging in a rapid exchange in Spanish.

“I lived there about 20 years ago. In Palermo Viejo. Las Canitas too,” Meghan said, according to a translation. It is believed Meghan’s mastery of the language stemmed from her time at Northwestern University, when she interned at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina and from her previous studies abroad in Madrid, Spain.

“That’s great. That’s where the polo fields were,” he said, and the Duchess of Sussex added that she had a particularly fondness for “the 25th of May,” which is Argentina’s national day.

At the conclusion of the exchange, Cambiaso then turned to address Harry, and cheekily asked him “Do you speak Spanish?”, while Meghan simply laughed and responded “Yes” while wrapping an arm around her husband.

Clearly caught off guard, a sheepish Harry soon responded: “He knows I don’t!” Before admitting that actually, he did have a small amount of knowledge as he added: “Well, yes. A little, a little.”

Fluent Spanish language skills are just one of Meghan’s many hidden talents to have come to light this year, with the Duchess’ affinity for Spanish already having taken the spotlight during her tour of Columbia earlier this year.

Both Meghan and Harry visited the South American nation back in August for their four day whistle stop tour at the invitation of Colombian Vice President Francia Márquez.

During the trip, both the Prince and Duchess practiced their Spanish while visiting a primary school class at Santa Fe school Colegio La Giraldaon on the second day of the tour, which included Harry asking the children their names while Meghan openly discussed their 5 year old son Prince Archie with an eager youngster.

Later on in the tour, Meghan also surprised audiences when she gracefully gave a speech in Spanish during a panel discussion uplifting Afro-Colombian women.

In what appeared to be a moment of spontaneity, Meghan removed her earpiece and began to address the audience directly in their native tongue while expressing her “deep appreciation for the Colombian hospitality. She praised the culture and history of the country, describing the visit as a dream and highlighting the strong sense of community she felt.”
