Meghan Markle has spoken about one of her children’s “aunties” in her latest podcast episode, however it isn’t Princess Kate. In the third episode of her new podcast Confessions of A Female Founder, The Duchess of Sussex, 43, sits down for a candid chat with Kadi Lee, co-founder of hair brand Highbrow Hippie. During the chat, Meghan described Kadi as an ‘auntie’ to her children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three – a sweet nod to the fact the hair brand founder is close to the duchess and her family.
Meghan also revealed that Kadi, who she calls “Auntie Kadi” in the podcast, is greeted by Archie and Lilibet, who “run out” to see her when she arrives at the family’s Montecito home in her car. Kadi then referred to herself as ‘Super Aunt’.
Meghan said: “I mean our kids love Auntie Kadi, it’s just our favourite when they run out, your car, it’s like ‘Kadi!”
Lee added: “I know, I feel like I look for them first!”
By referring to the hair stylist as an “auntie” to her children, Meghan is expressing just how close Kadi is to the family. This is something the duchess has done before with other friends, referring to tennis pro Serena Williams as an auntie to her children on a sweet Instagram story earlier this year.
However, the term auntie may turn heads among royal fans as Meghan never talks about Archie and Lilibet’s actual auntie Princess Kate.
It is believed Kate, 43, along with her husband Prince William, 42, are not actively involved in the lives of Meghan and Prince Harry’s children as a result of William and Harry not being on talking terms.
There is also a physical distance between the families, with Harry and Meghan having relocated to America after quitting royal duty in the UK five years ago.
It is not known when Prince William or Princess Kate last saw Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children.
In 2021, the year Lilibet was born, the Princess of Wales admitted that she had not seen her yet, with Meghan and Harry having already relocated to the US at that point.
When asked on a royal engagement about her niece in June 2021, Kate said: “I can’t wait to meet her. We haven’t met her yet. I hope that will be soon.”
It is not clear whether a meeting ever went ahead, with the children having last visited the UK in 2022.
