Meghan Markle has been criticised as her new show for Netflix, which was previously rumoured to be a cookery show, will reportedly hardly feature any cooking recipes and will instead offer ideas on how to be the “perfect hostess”, according to sources.
The Duchess of Sussex will star in a new lifestyle series on the streaming giant titled With Love, Meghan, which is to be released on March 4.
Meghan’s show will consist of eight episodes and was originally thought to have the duchess share cooking, gardening and hosting tips.
Last April, when the show was first announced, it was said that it would “celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship”.
But according to sources who have reportedly seen a preview of the series, the duchess won’t be handing out recipes but will show viewers how to master hosting instead.
A source told the Mail: “There is no point at which Meghan says ‘take 200 grams of flour’ or anything like that.
“It’s a very magical and beautiful guide to hosting and entertaining rather than a how-to cookery show.
“It’s about inspiration – more like, ‘Why not try and make this kind of pasta or this kind of dessert’.”
The source added that Prince Harry is “barely glimpsed” and “barely mentioned” in the show and it’s “all about” Meghan.
They said: “Harry isn’t in it. It’s all her, and all about her. It’s very watchable.”
The Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff was critical of the show after the new claims.
She wrote: “With Meghan’s new venture previously rumoured to be a cookery show, viewers might have been expecting her to reinvent herself as a Nigella-style Kitchen Goddess for a new generation.
“But according to sources who have seen a preview of the series, the Duchess of Sussex won’t be seen going through recipes step by step and measuring out ingredients.”
She added: “Screened by Netflix, it is likely to be the final project in Meghan and Prince Harry’s $100million deal with the US streaming giant.”
Notably, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said earlier this week that she is “excited” about the Montecito couple’s future.
Speaking to the same outlet, Ms Bajaria revealed that the company would be standing by Harry and Meghan and added that the duchess’s new show would be a major hit.
She said: “We have Meghan’s new show coming out, which is great. It is such a great take on a lifestyle show and showcase for California, Montecito and nature. It really has great takeaways. I was like ‘oh my God, I want to really do that pasta.’ There’s really easy great takeaways on life. I am really excited about that coming out.”
