Meghan Markle has revealed an adorable family tradition cherished by both of her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Duchess of Sussex took to her Instagram account on Friday to mark the US’s Independence Day.
Meghan shared three snaps, including a selfie with the Duke of Sussex, and revealed how, ever since their second date in July 2016, on that day, when he brought her cupcakes, the couple make cupcakes every year, with their two children now following the tradition too. Another snap showed a pair of small hands holding a tray of American-colour cupcakes, while the third shot reportedly showed Harry’s cupcake from 2016. It is unclear if the one holding the tray is Archie or Lilibet.
The Duchess captioned the post: “Our second date was the 4th of July 2016 and H brought me cupcakes to celebrate.
“Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition.
“Happy Independence Day! May your day be as sweet as these cupcakes.”
Harry and Meghan have been raising their children in Montecito, California, since announcing they were stepping back as working members of the Royal Family back in early 2020.
The couple have since been at the centre of tensions with other royals, with the Duke becoming estranged from his father, the King, and his brother, the Prince of Wales.
In a recent interview, Harry said he “would love a reconciliation” with his family, claiming Charles will not speak to him and expressing concern that he does not know “how much longer my father has”.
