Meghan Markle may do better at a 'small startup' compared to 'million dollar Spotify'

Meghan Markle parted ways with Spotify and has now moved to Lemonada Media, which is a much smaller platform, a smaller roster, with big-name hosts, and that’s seen as a good thing, says an industry insider.

Just last week, Meghan announced her forthcoming podcast. There’s no word on when it’s going to premiere, or what the format will be, but we do know she will be hosting.

Daily Express US spoke to podcast queen and royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, who knows the ins and outs of the podcasting world and was able to provide a rundown of what to expect.

The To Di For Daily host says of the change of scenery: “Lemonada is an audio-first podcasting company so Meghan won’t get all the bells and whistles that Spotify offered, but with only 50 or so shows on their roster Meghan will likely get way more attention and will have more control.”

Lemonade is home to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Wiser than Me, The Sarah Silverman Podcast and Choice Words with Samantha Bee. Meghan will be in good company, when she’s ready to kick off the new series.

Schofield then turned her attention to Leomonada’s CEO and co-founder, Jessica Cordova Kramer, saying, “When working with celebrities that want to be podcasters, Kramer said, ‘Authenticity and passion’ are crucial to ensure success.”

“She described it as, ‘Notable voices operating as they are your friend’. With Lemonada such a small startup compared to the million-dollar pressure of Spotify… maybe Meghan can find an authentic voice and rhythm easier.”
