Meghan Markle was allegedly “furious” at her dad, Thomas Markle, after he “ignored” one of her “demands”, a royal author has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex has had a rocky relationship with her father, with whom she now has no contact, following her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.
Mr Markle did not attend the couple’s lavish wedding in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle due to health reasons, which took place after an incident involving his daughter and the paparazzi. He has since made a number of claims about his daughter, but the Duchess has not responded publicly.
However, a royal author alleged in his book that the duo had had various rows over the years for different things.
One of them was in 1999, when Meghan was just 18 years old and it was all about a school play.
Tom Bower wrote in his 2022 book, Revenge: “In spring 1999, the musical The Pyjama Game was the new school play.
“Meghan wanted the lead part but also wanted to go for a week to the school’s summer retreat.”
The author claimed that the drama teacher, Gigi Perreau, insisted that Meghan should choose one or the other, with the Duchess going to the retreat instead.
But she asked her father, who volunteered to assist with Immaculate Heart High School’s productions, not to do the lighting for the play, which he did.
Mr Bower wrote: Outraged that the teacher denied her a part in the play, she urged her father not to do the lighting. He ignored her demand.”
Meghan’s dad, according to the book, claimed that his daughter was “furious” and “screamed he should obey her wishes”.
The Duchess would mostly live with her mother, Doria Ragland, during her younger years, after her parents divorced when she was just six years old.
