Meghan Markle’s fans have been sent into a frenzy over Princess Lilibet’s accent, which can be heard in a new video posted online by The Duchess of Sussex yesterday. Meghan, 43, uploaded a series of clips to her Instagram stories to show the family’s “cosy” weekend in Montecito.

In one of the clips, Lilibet, three, can be seen helping Meghan make jam in the kitchen as the video shows her hand stirring a spoon. When the duchess asks her daughter what she thinks of the jam, Lilibet replies “I think it’s beautiful”. Since hearing her voice, royal fans have been sent into a frenzy, with many saying on X how Meghan and Prince Harry’s daughter has an adorable American accent.

One fan wrote on X: “I was just going to say she sounds like she has a thick New York accent.”

Another said: “Her voice and accent is beautiful!”

A third wrote: “Omygosh Princess Lilibet of Sussex has the most beautiful voice. Is that accent American or British?”

Although her father Harry is British, Princess Lilibet seems to have adopted her mum’s American accent, most likely helped by the fact the young royal has been raised in the US, along with her brother Prince Archie, five.

While Archie spent almost the first whole year of his life in the UK when his parents were working royals, this soon changed in 2020 when Harry and Meghan left royal duty behind and moved to Montecito in California, where they still live today.

Although the children have American accents, Meghan did reveal earlier this year that the children do say some things with a British accent.

When appearing on the Drew Barrymore Show, she explained: “Oh, some of the words that they still say with a British accent, so they’ll say zeb-ra [for zebra] and what else do they say?

“They have these little moments where it comes out and because they have very American accents, but they say words that are just like him, and I think it’s adorable.”
