Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand As Ever has been mocked on hit BBC show Have I Got News for You as the panel poked fun at her products, as well as at her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan. One gag at her expense suggested that she had only sold out of her raspberry spread online because there were hardly any for sale.
Referring to her products, journalist Ian Hislop said: “It has immediately sold out, which I thought was good, unless there is only two jars…” Then, referring to Meghan’s advice to customers to keep her jam jars and re-use them, Mr Hislop quipped: “It would also make a lovely holder for writs from charities that your husband has been involved in.”
A comedian on the panel, Phil Wang, also described how it looked like Meghan Markle was not enjoying bee-keeping on the episodes of her show.
He said: “And she’s like ‘I love coming out and getting in touch with nature’, but you could see she was about to throw up.”
On her website, Meghan describes her brand: “As Ever is more than a brand – it’s a love language. Created by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, As ever welcomes you to a collection of products, each inspired by her long-lasting love of cooking, entertaining, and hostessing with ease. This curated collection has been crafted to elevate your everyday and inspire moments of joy.”
For its first collection, As Ever’s launch includes a raspberry spread in keepsake packaging, a raspberry spread without keepsake packaging, herbal lemon ginger tea, herbal peppermint tea, herbal hibiscus tea, her flower sprinkles, crepe mix, shortbread cookie mix with flower sprinkles included and a limited-edition wildflower honey with honeycomb.
Many noted how the online shop of the King’s Highgrove home sold a similar organic raspberry and blackberry preserve for £6.95 while the Sandringham Royal Estate has a raspberry and gin preserve at £6.99 – cheaper than Meghan’s range.
The news of Meghan’s products selling out come after the Duke of Sussex became embroiled in a dispute with Dr Sophie Chandauka, the chairwoman of the Sentebale charity he founded in 2006, which led to him quitting as patron amid a boardroom battle.
This week, on April 8, a busy Meghan Markle is also set to launch her new podcast ‘Confessions of a Female Founder’, hosted by Lemonada Media.
