Meghan Markle branded a ‘sad tale of desperation’ after latest swipe at Royal Family | Royal | News

Meghan Markle was dubbed a “sad tale of desperation” after her latest apparent thinly veiled swipe at the Royal Family during her latest interview. The Duchess of Sussex appeared on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, where she opened up on various topics, including the public’s perception of her.

Meghan’s popularity has been increasingly plummeting since her sensational departure from the Royal Family five years ago, repeatedly ranking near the bottom of various polls in the US and the UK. In the podcast interview, the Duchess was asked by the SKIMS founding partner what she would do differently if she could “rewrite her public narrative,” to which she replied that she would “ask people to tell the truth”.

And in an apparent jibe at the royals, she referred to a “lie” told eight years ago, saying “a lie can’t live forever. Eight years is a long time, but not forever”.

While the Duchess gave no specifics about whom she was referring, various royal watchers suggested it was aimed at the Royal Family, whom she previously accused of not supporting her.

But now a royal commentator has blasted Meghan for her claims, saying that they only prove that “her bitterness [towards the royals] is still present”.

US-based journalist Lee Cohen told the Express: “Some have suggested Markle saying in the podcast, ‘a lie can’t last forever’ was a swipe at the Royal Family.

“If so, it means that despite claiming to have moved on, her bitterness is still present. But she has nothing to be bitter against but her own disgraceful behaviour.”

Mr Cohen criticised the Duchess for “continuing to fuel this feud years later” and claimed that it’s only due to the fact that it is “the only narrative she has that is interesting to the public”.

He said: “Otherwise, she’s a sad tale of desperation and tireless rebranding.”

The royal commentator said that Meghan’s links to the Royal Family are “her oxygen” and the “only narrative that keeps her in the headlines”.

He questioned: “Without it, what’s left? A common social media influencer peddling overpriced jam?”

Ms Grede asked Meghan during their podcast interview this week: “I want to say this to you in the best way, because I wonder if you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything that you would do differently?”

Meghan replied: “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth.”

She said that her “dear friend” tennis champion Serena Williams told her “a lie can’t live forever,” adding: “She told me years ago, a lie can’t live forever. Eight years is a long time, but not forever.”
