Meghan Markle has narrowly avoided clashing with a milestone 80th birthday of a Royal Family member because of the decision to delay her Netflix show ‘With Love, Meghan’.
The original release date for the new series, titled ‘With Love, Meghan’, was scheduled for today, January 15, but it has now been postponed until March 4, because of the on-going wildfire disasters in California which have now claimed the lives of 25 people.
Netflix issued a statement from Meghan Markle regarding her upcoming show which read: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
January 15 is the milestone for Princess Michael of Kent, who is celebrating her 80th birthday today.
The 80-year-old, who is married to the late Queen’s first cousin Prince Michael, suffered from a fall at her home in Kensington Palace before King Charles’s pre-Christmas lunch – but she still attended.
She reportedly fell when she was carrying an armful of overcoats and broke several bones.
Speaking of her injuries to the Daily Mail, she said: “So many things that you rely on being able to do, like cleaning your teeth, are impossible. I can type with one finger on a mobile, but I can’t use a laptop.”
She added: “I am told that, after an accident like this, if you do one wrong movement on top of the unhealed bones, you are back where you started.”
The decision to delay the Netflix production comes as critics voiced opinions about the “insensitivity” of the timing in relation to the California fires if the show went ahead.
Before the announcement reporting the delay of Meghan Markle’s upcoming cooking show, Prince Harry and Meghan were seen at a volunteer shelter in Pasadena in California on January 10 to meet the city’s mayor, Victor Gordo, and emergency workers tackling the Eaton Fire.
The couple also helped the team and were seen on hand serving meals to people who had fled their homes and were forced to evacuate.
Victor Gordo, praised the couple’s efforts, saying Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, “really buoyed the spirits of the first responders”. People Magazine understands the couple donated essential supplies, served meals with World Central Kitchen and connected with affected families and elderly individuals.
The couple’s affluent neighbourhood of Montecito has been placed under a red flag warning amid fears of explosive fire growth across the region.
