Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly feeling “distressed” this week after new accusations and scathing comments have been made against them.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who quit royal life five years ago, were the topic of discussion over the weekend after Vanity Fair published a huge article under the headline “American Hustle”.
In the feature, which focused on the last five years since Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, moved to America, various sources were interviewed about the couple and their lives behind closed doors.
This opened the door to a number of fresh accusations, with one source alleging that some staff who worked with Meghan during her podcast had to have “long-term therapy”.
The duchess was also accused of having been “really, really awful” to members of her team at times, with someone even citing there was some “mean girl” behaviour present despite the fact Meghan had been “warm” towards employees to begin with.
As reported by The Times, the couple have dismissed the allegations with sources close to the Sussexes describing them as “distressing”. Their official office have declined to comment.
An insider has also told The Daily Beast that the article has come at a difficult time for the couple as Meghan’s new Netflix show “With Love, Meghan” was postponed and Harry is set to spend time in the UK for a tricky court case.
The source said: “Things aren’t easy for them right now. Vanity Fair have succeeded in making a bad time worse.”
As well as the duchess being criticised heavily by sources in the feature, Prince Harry also received some less than favourable comments against him.
This included the idea that he was never fully engaged with Spotify. A former Spotify employee told the publication that it was “challenging” to engage Harry, while another person who interviewed for a job with the couple said: “I just felt like he kind of didn’t want to be there doing that at this time…. My expectation was ‘charming receiving line.’ And it was clear he wasn’t that person. At least that day.”
Some neighbours of the couple also suggested that they had become local villains, despite the fact that Sharon Stone had previously said they had become a part of the community.
The actress defended the couple in accusations made before and revealed that they are “part of the community”. She said: “You know, the thing about them that is so great is they didn’t come here to live off of our community, they came here to be a part of our community.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not publicly commented on the Vanity Fair article.
