LAS VEGAS — Matthew Stafford has spent his NFL career rewriting record books. On Sunday afternoon in Sin City, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback added another remarkable chapter to his Hall of Fame résumé.

And this time, he accomplished something no quarterback in NFL history has ever done.

With an 11-yard touchdown strike to Puka Nacua in the second quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders, Stafford became the Rams’ all-time leader in passing touchdowns, surpassing franchise legend Roman Gabriel with his 155th touchdown pass in horns.

The milestone also made Stafford the first quarterback in NFL history to hold the career passing touchdown record for two of the league’s current 32 franchises.

Stafford already owns the Detroit Lions’ record with 282 touchdown passes in 165 games.

Not bad for a quarterback who has spent much of his career proving that greatness isn’t always measured by wins and losses.

Stafford entered Sunday needing three touchdown passes to eclipse Gabriel’s longstanding record of 154, which the former Rams quarterback established over 130 games from 1962-72.

Despite the Rams being riddled with injuries, Stafford and company didn’t waste any time putting up points.

Stafford opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Davis Allen in the first quarter, then found Allen again from 5 yards out.

His third touchdown, an 11-yard connection with Nacua, officially put him atop the Rams’ record books.

Remarkably, Stafford needed just 81 games with Los Angeles to accomplish what took Gabriel 130.

At halftime, Stafford has thrown for 148 yards and three touchdowns in a “must-win” game for Los Angeles.

For a Rams team desperately trying to climb out of last place in the NFC West, Stafford’s historic afternoon couldn’t have come at a better time.
