A well-known UK discount store has issued a product recall for a popular summer holiday item of clothing that may pose a “risk” of injuries. Matalan, which has around 230 stores in the UK, has issued the guidance for various women’s bikini tops that the firm says are not fit for wearing.
According to the official Office for Product Safety and Standards website, the “products present a risk of injuries as the underwiring can protrude during use, which may result in the user receiving scratches or cuts to the skin”. Product recalls are announced on the Government site when they present a serious risk to health or safety, are unsafe due to defects, contamination, or incorrect labelling, or fail to meet legal requirements. The bright bikini tops in various colours were on sale between “November 14, 2024 to June 26, 2025” but have been found to “not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005”.
A statement about the product recall continues: “The products have been recalled from end users by Matalan. If you have purchased any of the affected bikini tops, please stop using it immediately and return it to your nearest Matalan store for a full refund. You will not need to produce a receipt.

Detailing the exact items affected by the recall the statement added it referred to the following bikini tops: Spring Mainstream Underwire, Spring Mainstream DD, Navy Floral Cupped, MS DD Bikini Top Multi, MS Underwire Bikini Top Multi, Mainstream Postcard DD and the Mainstream Postcard UW.
The country of origin for the products is listed as China and they were sold in various colours and designs.
