'Masterpiece' WWII film with 97% Rotten Tomatoes rating leaving Netflix this month

A 1993 Steven Spielberg classic, which has won an incomprehensible 91 awards and had 49 nominations, is still available to stream on Netflix – but it will be taken off the platform on October 22. The Oscar-winning film follows the true and remarkable story of businessman turned humanitarian Oskar Schindler (played by Liam Neeson), who arrives in Poland in 1939 expecting to make his fortune during the Second World War, which has just broken out. However, he ends up spending the entirety of his fortune to help save the lives of 1,100 Jews from transportation to concentration camps such as Auschwitz during the Holocaust.

“Antisemitism always lurks in a very shallow water table,” Spielberg told Hollywood Reporter on the film’s 30th anniversary. “It’s just under the ground. And every once in a while, it seeps up through the surface, into all of our lives and the news cycle, where we are publicly aware of what people are saying against Jews.”

The heartbreakingly tragic movie has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 97 per cent and has been hailed by thousands of viewers online. One watcher wrote: “This might be the single greatest film ever created. Everything about this film is a home run masterpiece.”

Another said: “This film should be required viewing for every high school student.” A third echoed: “Truly a masterpiece of a movie, I don’t know why I waited so long to finally watch this.”

A fourth said: “Heartbreaking, Tragic, Tear Jerking, but also Fantastic, Realistic, Well Written and Acted, and Phenomenally told. Schindler’s List is an example of a perfect movie, and deserves all the praise it gets. If there’s any WW2 film to watch, this is it.”

“This movie is great from start to finish. Steven Spielberg’s direction in this movie was at its best and everyone’s performance in the movie is moving,” someone else penned.

Schindler’s List is available to stream on Netflix until Ocotber 22.
