‘Masterpiece’ war epic with a ‘stellar cast’ now on Prime Video

Set during the final days of World War II, a gripping wartime drama captures the brutality and exhaustion of soldiers as the Allies advance deep into Nazi Germany.

The story follows a small tank crew navigating both the dangers of battle and the psychological cost of survival – a group of men bound together by duty, fear and circumstance.

The film explores how combat strips away identity, forcing soldiers to confront their own capacity for violence while holding onto fragments of humanity.

Behind the armour plating of their Sherman tank lies not only the machinery of war but how each man responds differently to the chaos closing in around them.

Released in 2014, Fury was written and directed by David Ayer and stars Brad Pitt as Don “Wardaddy” Collier, the battle-worn commander leading his crew through enemy lines.

Shia LaBeouf, Jon Bernthal, Michael Peña and Logan Lerman complete the cast, portraying a team whose uneasy dynamic evolves amid constant threat.

The film’s historical accuracy is notable, using real tanks and authentic weaponry, including one of the only working Tiger I models still in existence. Cinematographer Roman Vasyanov’s visuals and Steven Price’s sombre score add to its realism, reflecting both the devastation of war and the exhaustion of those fighting it.

On Rotten Tomatoes, viewers praised its authenticity and technical accomplishment. One review said: “You’re not supposed to like them! This film floored me. It’s not about medals or glory… it’s about the raw brutality of war, the grief, and how it twists people into something unrecognisable. Logan Lerman’s transformation from innocent kid to hardened soldier is the perfect example of what war does to humanity.”

Another audience member noted: “Absolute masterpiece of war filming – the cast is completely stellar.” That ensemble, led by Pitt, is central to the film’s impact.

One review summarised it as “an engaging and well-acted World War II drama that is both thrilling and thought-provoking,” noting how the film presents war as a test of endurance, where victory offers little redemption.

Fury is now available to stream on Prime Video, as well as Channel 4+ and Apple TV.
