A classic 90s thriller starring Tom Cruise and hailed as a “masterpiece” by fans is streaming free in the UK. A Few Good Men (1992) stars Cruise as Daniel Kaffee, a talented young lawyer defending two US marines accused of murdering a fellow service member.
Working alongside his co-counsel, Lt. Cmdr. Joanne Galloway (Demi Moore), Kaffee’s attention turns to the possible role high ranking officer Col. Nathan Jessep (played by Jack Nicholson) played in the marine’s death. The film is written by legendary screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, and based on his 1989 play of the same name.
It was directed by Rob Reiner, known for classics like Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally.., and The Princess Bride.
One fan writing on Rotten Tomatoes called the film a “brilliantly put together masterpiece which features great performances, compelling dialogues and a masterful direction”.
Another called it: “One of the great movies of all-time. Much of it due to Jack Nicholson putting together the most captivating and incredible 30 minutes of screen time I’ve ever seen in Cinema.”
A third, who gave it five stars, said: “The second half of the movie was one of the best I have ever seen – It took you through a kaleidoscope of emotions.
“Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson are just absolutely fantastic, but so is Demi Moore. A lot going on! Definitely must see!”
A fourth added: One of my all times favourites I could watch again and again… and have done.”
The film has a 15 certificate. Common Sense Media, a non-profit that provides independent reviews, age ratings, and other information about media flags the film as featuring “language, hazing, and suicide in complex military whodunit”, so it may not be for everyone.
A Few Good Men is streaming now on Channel 4.
