'Masterpiece' new horror film gets almost perfect 94% score

There’s a brand new horror on the block, and some are calling it a “masterpiece”. The picture has already received an impressive score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and shows no sign of slowing down. Weapons is a mystery horror film directed, written, produced, and co-scored by Zach Cregger. It stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Toby Huss, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan.

The film’s synopsis reads: “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.”

Weapons has been receiving much praise from critics and fans alike. It’s 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes reflects that. The critics’ consensus states: “Zach Cregger spins an expertly crafted yarn of terrifying mystery and thrilling intrigue in Weapons, a sophomore triumph that solidifies his status as a master of horror.”

One critic said: “Weapons is an ambitious, well-crafted, and expansive horror experience that shows Zach Cregger is a filmmaking force to be reckoned with in cinema. Highly recommended.”

The audience consensus states: “Loaded with bold elements that make it not just a great horror film, but a noteworthy film overall, Weapons is ultimately an impressive, genre-bending experience that’s original, entertaining, and satisfying despite its faint air of ambiguity.”

An audience reviewer described the movie as a “masterpiece” and said: “From the very first frame, Weapons grips you with a taut, almost suffocating atmosphere that never lets go. This is a masterful piece of filmmaking that transcends the typical thriller genre, delving deep into the psychological ramifications of violence. The director, with a keen eye for detail, builds a world that feels both familiar and unnervingly alien.”

Similarly, on IMDb, reviewers are hailing the thrilling movie, though it has a slightly lower rating of 7.8/10.

One reviewer said: “Exceeding all my expectations, Weapons is an incredibly powerful film where Zach Cregger masterfully blends tension and dark humour to a new level of sharpness.”

“What makes Weapons stand out is how confidently it holds your attention. From start to finish, it’s a film that refuses to let go, pulling you deeper into its unsettling premise. It’s refreshing to see such commitment to originality in mainstream horror, and the movie feels like a love letter to the genre’s willingness to take risks,” added another viewer.

Weapons is out in UK cinemas now.
