Spooky season is among us, meaning Halloween-lovers around the world are most likely binge-watching the scariest classic of all time in the run-up to the holiday. However, if there’s one film that is a must-watch this Halloween, then it’s this timeless classic, which fans, even after nearly 20 years, can’t get enough of.

The spooky film has been dubbed a masterpiece and a nostalgic favourite by fans who enjoyed it as children and still do as adults, but film enthusiasts don’t have long left until the film leaves Netflix.

Monster House, released in 2006, is an animated film about three teens who discover that a neighbouring property is, in fact, a living monstrous creature, but no adults believe them. So they take it upon themselves to challenge it.

The film has a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes with the critics’ consensus reading: “Monster House welcomes kids and adults alike into a household full of smart, monstrous fun,” which couldn’t be any further from the truth, as those who have grown up with the film still love it to this very day.

One viewer said: “This is a great movie! Funny, spooky and a heartfelt story in the end. Always watch when it’s that time of year, no matter how old I get. A truly interesting watch.”

A second wrote: “This movie really is GREAT and it gave me so much nostalgia. I loved it then and love it now. Class or possibly even a masterpiece!”

Another person even went so far as to include the animation in their “top 10 movies of all time,” adding that it is a “thrilling emotional rollercoaster ride.”

Critics have also highly praised the film over the years, including The Wolfman Cometh, which recently described the film as a “delightful gateway horror that manages to deliver both an authentically spooky premise and plenty of slapstick glee.”

Whether you’ve watched the film or not, if you have a Netflix subscription, make the most of its availability on the platform. The last day to watch it is October 31.
