A “masterpiece” Disney film that has captured the hearts of generations is now streaming for free.
Lilo & Stitch was first released as an animated Disney film back in 2002 and quickly became a favourite amongst fans. So when it was announced that a live action remake was going to be made, excitement undoubtedly started to build.
Disney released its remake of Lilo & Stitch in 2025 which follows the touching story of a young and lonely Hawaiian girl who forges a bond with a fugitive alien.
Directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Dean Fleischer Camp, the 2025 film has now been released on Disney Plus from today, 3rd September, at no extra cost to subscribers.
And fans have branded the film as a “masterpiece”, calling it Disney’s “best ever” live action remake. One Google reviewer wrote: “Lilo and Stitch is absolutely one of my all-time favorite Disney movies!
“Seriously, Disney hit a home run with this one. It’s funny, engaging, and genuinely touching. There are moments that will make you cry, but it’s all part of that beautiful storytelling.”
They went on to say the film “exceeds expectations” as another said: “The movie is one of Disney’s best movies for me and if you like Laughs, tears, Drama, and a blue alien, I advise you to see Lilo & Stitch live action in the Cinema.”
A third added: “I genuinely don’t understand some of the negativity surrounding the new Lilo & Stitch movie. To me, it was a 10/10 masterpiece.
“Yes, it diverges from the original, but that’s what makes it so compelling. The film takes bold, creative liberties, offering a fresh perspective while still honoring the spirit of the original.”
The film boasts a score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes and stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as her older sister Nani.
Fans may recognise Tia Carrere who played social worker Mrs Kekoa, as she famously voiced Nani in the original animated film.
Similarly, Jason Scott Lee made an appearance in the 2025 as the manager of Luau, and he previously voiced Nani’s love interest David in the animated version.
Disney also brought back Chris Sanders to voice the beloved Stitch once again.
One reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes said: “I LOVED this remake! Honestly, I think this is one of the best remakes Disney has done.”
Another added: “Super cute. Actually made me tear up a little. I have honestly not seen the cartoon version but my 8 year old says its not much like it at all.”
Lilo & Stitch is available to stream on Disney Plus now.
