Video from the scene shows armed police sprinting into Union Station as fans flee. Others are seen being carried away on stretchers.

Two gunmen have been arrested, while investigators are advising members of the public to avoid the area.

Earlier reports indicate one person had died, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Daily Express US has approached the Kansas City Police Department for more information.

In a statement, the police department said: “At the conclusion of the rally there were shots fired west of Union Station near the garage and several people were struck.

“There have been two armed people detained.

“We need people to exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and [to] avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims.”

KSHB 41 presenters said those in attendance were warning each other to lay down and take cover as the terrifying scene unfolded.

The one and a half hour victory parade began at 11am local time (12pm EST) on Wednesday at 6th Street and Grand Boulevard, before heading south on Grand west. After heading north on Main, it came to an end at Union Station.

The rally then followed from 12.45pm in front of Union Station and the National World War One Museum and Memorial north lawn.
