Horrific video captured the moment two masked thugs viciously robbed and pummeled a 49-year-old man at gunpoint on a Chicago sidewalk in a brazen broad-daylight attack.
The disturbing footage showed the victim cowering on the pavement in Fulton Market Thursday afternoon as one crook hovered over him, aiming a gun at his head while the other snatched his belongings before they ran away, jumped into a Range Rover and sped off, Fox 32 Chicago reported.
Authorities said the shocking holdup unfolded around 4:23 p.m., when the victim was ambushed by two male suspects near the sidewalk in the 200 block of North Peoria Street.
At least one assailant allegedly pulled a gun and demanded the victim’s property, while the other battered him.
The duo fled with man’s belongings, cops said, the outlet reported.
It’s not clear what the alleged bandits stole from the victim, who declined medical attention at the scene.
The attackers are still on the run as Chicago police continue their investigation and hunt for the armed suspects, the outlet reported.
Fulton Market business owners called on police to boost patrols and install extra security cameras to curb and prevent violent attacks in the upscale neighborhood.
The popular area has reportedly long been a hotspot for armed muggings and burglaries.
Walter Burnett, Alderman of the 27th Ward, said the attack was an isolated incident.
“First and foremost, I’m grateful that there was no serious harm to the individual involved in this incident,” he said in a statement, according to Fox.
“The safety of our constituents is a top priority for the 27th Ward. I have spoken with the 12th District Commander, [James] Baier, who is aware of the incident, and I have been assured that the police presence will increase in the area. I am also told that these appear to be isolated events.”
