BBC iPlayer is currently showcasing a cherished gem from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, albeit for a limited time.

This 2015 action-packed thriller features a well-loved Hollywood comedian in the role of a reformed crook who evolves into one of the Avengers’ most dependable allies.

A decade later, this pioneering superhero film, boasting one of Marvel’s most distinctive characters, continues to hold a special place in the hearts of comic book enthusiasts, making it a must-see or even a rewatch.

Regrettably, Ant-Man, featuring Paul Rudd, will only be accessible on iPlayer for the next eight days, providing viewers with a narrow window to enjoy this spectacular film completely free.

The plot kicks off when Scott Lang (portrayed by Rudd) is freed from prison and forms an unexpected alliance with Dr Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who is determined to prevent his perilous shrinking technology from landing in the wrong hands, reports the Mirror.

However, Pym’s unstable former apprentice, Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), has created his own miniaturising suit known as the Yellowjacket, posing a potential threat of unimaginable chaos.

With the upcoming MCU instalment, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set to premiere in cinemas later this week, now is the ideal moment to revisit one of Marvel’s more understated superhero successes.

A fan heaped praise in a glowing five-star Google review, exclaiming: “Ant-Man is BY FAR one of the most entertaining, funny, and heartwarming movies in the MCU – I’m thinking it’s my favorite!

“I went into the movie not expecting much but Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) was so easy to like and hilarious.

“My family had such a great time watching this underrated classic. It was fast-paced, had good character development, a simple storyline, didn’t take itself too seriously but managed to HIT A HOME RUN, and did I mention funny as hell?”

Another enthusiast effused: “I love this movie with all my heart. It’s funny, interesting, heroic and one of the funniest at Marvel Studios.”

“I never realized how great this movie is until now,” confessed a third. “Top 5 MCU films for me.

“It is just so fun, fresh, and has great action too. Villain is actually pretty good. One of the more rewatchable films in Marvel.”

Yet another chimed in: “This is probably my favorite Marvel movie. I am a huge Marvel fan and this was just amazing. It has comedy and the character development is amazing!”

And one more reviewer recommended: “I recommend this movie cause it’s just so darn funny!

“Paul Rudd does an amazing job as Ant-Man, and the humor is amazing. The action: 10/10. Humor: 10/10. Basically everything: 10/10.”

Don’t miss out on revisiting another Marvel gem filled with warmth and wit as the Fantastic Four prepare for their imminent cinematic return.

Ant-Man is available on BBC iPlayer until Wednesday, 30th July.
