A loyal Donald Trump ally and MAGA stalwart has called on the US to split into two, as political tensions continue to rise following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The 31-year old political activist was shot dead last Wednesday by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson while attending an event at Utah Valley University.
The US President was quick to pin the blame for the murder on left wing radicals. Just hours after the shooting, he released a video in which he said years of attacks from the left comparing figures like Kirk to Nazis was “directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now.” Trump then insisted once again on Sunday that the problem “is on the left.”
The strategy to blame the left for the assassination has animated Republicans, who are mourning Kirk as a free speech champion and political martyr.
Marjorie Taylor Greene waded into the heated debate by renewing her calls for a “national divorce”, sparking fears of the dissolution of the US.
The firebrand Republican representative from Georgia ominously warned that the American right and left have “nothing left to talk about.”
She had previously raised the spectre of US disintegration in a post to her X social media account in February 2023.
At the time she wrote: “We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government. Everyone I talk to says this. From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat’s [sic] traitorous America Last policies, we are done.”
She was heavily criticised by fellow Republicans, with Utah Governor Spencer Cox slamming her call for secession as “evil”.
In her latest call for the dissolution of the US, Greene once again said there was “nothing left to talk about with the left.” She continued: “They assassinated our nice guy who actually talked to them peacefully debating ideas. Then millions on the left celebrated and made clear they want all of us dead.
“To be honest, I want a peaceful national divorce. Our country is too far gone and too far divided, and it’s no longer safe for any of us. What will come from Charlie Kirk being martyred is already happening. It is a spiritual revival building the kingdom for Christ.
“But it will happen on the outside, not within the halls of our government. Democrats are hardened in their beliefs and will flip the switch back as soon as they have power.
“And, if you are expecting Republicans to fight against evil, with the power they currently possess, and end this once and for all, you are going to be extremely disappointed.
“This week Congress will be voting on another CR – Biden’s budget that FUNDS TRANSGENDER POLICIES, NOT our own Trump policy budget that funds what you voted for. We had 9 months to get it done, but for reasons I don’t understand or agree with, it wasn’t the priority. Government is not answer, God is.”
