Just days away from the upcoming Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo has announced plans to hold a completely separate event for its current-gen console.
Despite all of the attention being on the Nintendo Switch 2 and when we can expect to play it, Nintendo is attempting to shift the focus away from its next-gen console and onto the original Nintendo Switch. It all revolves around a newly announced Nintendo Direct event, which has a March 27 air date. You can watch the event unfold live from 2pm GMT by clicking play on the YouTube video below.
The upcoming Nintendo Direct will run for approximately 30 minutes and will feature new information about upcoming Nintendo Switch games.
Sadly, however, it won’t include any news or updates about the Nintendo Switch 2.
That’s according to a statement by Nintendo, which says: “Tune in on Thursday, March 27 at 14:00 UK time for a livestreamed Nintendo Direct featuring around 30 minutes of information on upcoming games for Nintendo Switch.
“There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation.”
First-party games that could potentially be shown during Nintendo Direct include Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
While there are rumours that Metroid Prime 4 will also launch for the Switch 2, Nintendo has so far only announced it for the original Switch.
Outside of a short gameplay trailer and a loose 2025 launch date, little else is known about the upcoming Metroid sequel, which makes it the perfect candidate for the imminent Direct.
Following a recent outing during a Pokemon Presents stream, there’s also a chance Nintendo will provide fresh details about Pokemon Legends: Z-A, including a possible release date.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is another Nintendo Switch game that could make an appearance, alongside FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, and Onimusha 2.
There are even rumblings of a potential Hollow Knight Silksong trailer, especially after the recent update to SteamDB.
