A fire broke out in Manchester this afternoon, with images showing smoke seen for miles around. Reports on social media suggested it was in the Victoria Mill area.

Pictures and videos posted online show thick black smoke rising, with one witness saying: “Big fire near Victoria Mill.” Victoria Mill is a Grade II* listed 19th-century cotton spinning mill in Miles Platting and has now been converted into offices.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue confirmed there was a fire on Birt Street involving car parts and tyres on wasteland. It added that no one was there and the fire service was in attendance for around 15 minutes.
