The fog patches hanging over parts of Britain on December 27 have sparked major travel delays for Brits planning to fly away ahead of the weekend and New Year’s Celebrations.
Air traffic restrictions are in place at several UK airports due to fog, the country’s main air traffic control (ATC) provider Nats has said.
Gatwick, the second busiest airport in the country, is among those affected. Manchester Airport is also seeing disruption and delays caused by the fog.
A number of flights in Manchester are facing delays of over two hours, but the airport is urging passengers to prepare for their trip as they normally would and head to the air hub with plenty of time to spare.
A Manchester Airport spokesperson said: “Like most airports across the country, we have experienced some delays as a result of fog. In most instances these delays have been short and have not caused disruption to our schedule. Passengers due to travel should prepare as normal and aim to arrive at the airport in line with their airline’s advice – this is usually two hours ahead of a short haul flight and three hours ahead of a long haul flight.”
