Ruben Amorim has told Harry Maguire to improve as a player and a leader for Manchester United.

The club have triggered Maguire’s one-year contract extension, which should keep him at the club until the summer of 2026. But Amorim has revealed he made it clear, in a one-on-one meeting with United’s former captain, that he expects better from him moving forward.

“I spoke with him [Harry] this morning and I told him he has to improve on the pitch, we need him a lot,” said the Portuguese. “Also, he has to improve as a leader. We all know situation he had here but we need him a lot in this moment, but we are going to trigger the option for him. We are starving for leaders on the pitch. He is a leader.”
