Former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen highly rates Gianluigi Donnarumma, but he would be surprised if he ends up at the club this summer.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper is set to leave PSG after entering the final year of his contract with no success in extension talks.
“In certain games, I think Gianluigi Donnarumma has been outstanding for PSG. He commands his area and makes saves that have to be made. Predominantly, his job is to keep the ball out of the net, and that is what he does,” Meulensteen told Grosvenor Sport.
“I was surprised that Chelsea managed to put three past him, but they were nice goals. Don’t get me wrong, Andre Onana isn’t a bad goalkeeper; he proved that with Ajax and Inter.
“Erik ten Hag brought him in because he wanted 11 players who are able to knock the ball about, but at times he has cost United and hasn’t produced the goods.
“Amorim needs to look at creating defensive stability and conceding fewer goals. If you let in easy goals, then you are fighting an uphill battle straight away.
“Donnarumma would be an experienced goalkeeper at United and a big presence, but I can’t see it due to their financial predicament.”
